There are many websites that talk about the Chakras in great depth. I'm not going to try to reproduce that information here. Rather I'm going to talk about the Chakras as I have experienced them in my work with people on their personal development.
There are seven major chakras that I will focus on. These energy centers operate on a subtle energy level with direct correlations into the physical body.
The first or root chakra is located at the bottom of the abdomen approximately across the pubic symphysis where the pubic bones meet at the crotch and it is connected in with the basic foundations of the individual energy structure. This includes the core sense of the self and the sense of personal self-worth. This chakra directly interfaces with the spiritual and the "bottom" of it is a connecting portal that draws in the energy of life in a healthy system.
The second chakra is located about 3 inches above the first. It is tied into the genital system and is involved in relationships with others and with creativity. We make basic connections with other people as friends, enemies, lovers, etc. through the second chakra.
The third chakra is tied into the solar plexus around the belly button and it is the vehicle for sending energy out into the world and acting based on the guidance of the rest of the chakras.
The fourth chakra is tied into the heart and relates to compassion and love on both a personal and universal level. We need to receive love and nurturing as a child in order for this chakra to develop properly.
The fifth chakra is tied into the throat and is involved in communication and focus and exercise of the will. Difficulty in expressing yourself comes from blockages in this chakra.
The sixth chakra is on the forehead and is sometimes called the third eye. This chakra is related to perception of more than the three dimensional world of physical matter that is around us.
The seventh chakra is on the top of the head and can be called the crown chakra. It is the portal at the top of our being where universal, spiritual energy is received into and sent out of the personal system.
We are each an open system participating in the inflow and outflow of the universal spiritual energy patterns within and around us.
